What SOC 2 compliance software does, and what it cannot do
SOC 2 compliance software, such as Vanta, Drata or Secureframe, automates evidence collection and tracks controls. That saves real time. However, it does not fix gaps or write policies that match your stack.
- Readiness, not the audit
- An independent CPA firm signs
- Written estimate, no call
What SOC 2 compliance software does well
These platforms connect to your cloud, code and HR tools. So they collect evidence continuously, which removes much of the screenshot work.
- Automated evidence from cloud and code tools
- Control tracking and task reminders
- Policy templates and staff acknowledgements
- Vendor and device inventories
What it cannot do
Software reports a failing control, but someone must fix it. Also, templates still need editing, because the auditor tests what your policies promise.
| Task | Software | People |
|---|---|---|
| Collect evidence | Yes, automatically. | Review it. |
| Fix a missing control | Flags it. | Builds it. |
| Write fitting policies | Templates. | Adapt to reality. |
| Decide scope | No. | Agree with the customer. |
Do you need SOC 2 compliance software yet?
Tick what applies. More ticks suggest automation will pay off.
Your result appears here as you tick, so you can see what is still open.
Do you need SOC 2 compliance software?
No, although it helps. Small teams can pass with good spreadsheets and discipline. However, as the company grows, automation usually pays for itself.
How it changes our work
If you already use one of these platforms, the readiness work moves faster and costs less, because evidence collection is handled. Our fixed fee reflects that. We are not a CPA firm, so the examination remains separate.
Choosing SOC 2 compliance software
Pick the one that integrates with your stack and that your CPA firm can read easily. Also check the contract term, because many platforms bill annually. Criteria the platforms map to: AICPA Trust Services Criteria.
Timing matters as well. Buying a platform before scope is agreed can mean paying for frameworks you do not need. So confirm the criteria with your customer first, then choose. Also ask whether the platform's policy templates can be edited freely, because you will need to adapt them.

No. We work with whichever one you choose, or none.
Will the CPA firm accept platform evidence?
